Welcome to
Hi Mountain.

Thank you for visiting the Hi Mountain Condor Lookout, located in the heart of the Los Padres National Forest. The Lookout project is a collaborative effort between the Morro Coast Audubon Society, US Forest Service, US Fish and Wildlife Service, Pinnacles National Park, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and the Ventana Wildlife Society.

About Us

We are now in our 30th year of service as a fully restored fire lookout, field research facility, and remote tracking station for the critically endangered California Condor. We offer seasonal internships, conduct local public outreach programs, and have an active volunteer base.

Where are we?

Hi Mountain Lookout sits at 3,198 feet in Los Padres National Forest, between the Santa Lucia and Garcia Wilderness areas. While the surrounding area remains open to visitors when conditions allow, the lookout, visitor center, and gate are currently closed to visitation.
